These recipes are so obviously yummy that I bought the book even though medication is not a goal for my cooking. The recipes are sophisticated but not overly complicated. Instructions are crystal clear in an accessible and easy-to-use visual and written style. The cannabis specific tips and basic methods and recipes are clearly just what the doctor ordered for anyone wanting to make medicated dishes that taste wonderful. This book full of recipes is good enough to stand alone, and light years beyond the miserable excuses for brownies that used to be the limit in this category. The recipes I made were both easy and delicious.

Author Cheri Sicard ran a popular recipe website for years, so it was a natural transition for this marijuana activist to write a cannabis cookbook. The Daily Beast once called her the “Martha Steward of Weed,” and until Stewart herself writes a book — and really, we all know it’s coming — “The Easy Cannabis Cookbook” will do nicely. There is a dizzying array of extracts available, as well as ways to consume them, from vaporizing to smoking them atop traditional bud. And some have found their way into the kitchen.
Take the muffin pan (spray it with some Pam first so your treats don’t get stuck) and put a cookie’s worth amount of cookie dough at the bottom of each one. Kind of smush them flat so that they cover the bottom. Take a single Reese’s and place it on top of each of the cookies. Finally, pour the brownie mix in to each muffin so that it fills the little cup about halfway or until you’ve used all of the brownie mix. Either one works. The end result can either be a huge treat or a small one, depending on the amount of brownie that you use.
Hugh! I am so glad to have found you! I have been smoking herb for 37 yrs but am asthmatic and recently my lungs got so bad I HAD to give it up! After my lungs improved I researched how to make oil with herb but some of the instructions make no sense to me – wash the herb, dry it (or put it in a dehydrator?), wash it again, then roast it: all before cooking it with oil, in a special contraption, for 18hrs??? I consider myself a quick study & good cook so I combined a bunch of methods, took advice from some of the comments, simplified it & tried the following: I cleaned it (I buy it on the stalk with seeds in, leaves removed); chopped it in a coffee grinder – just like I would before rolling, fine but not powdery – roasted it on a cookie sheet in my oven at 250 for 1hr; put it in a glass bowl with coconut oil at a 1:2 herb to oil ratio; returned it to the oven & continued heating it at 250 for 2hrs. After it cooled I strained it using cheese cloth & used some in baking, some on crackers, some mixed with peanut butter. I found it best in the baking. I am currently living in the Caribbean and – after years of searching – finally found a grower/seller who provides me with very good quality herb at a great price (VERY hard for a non local to get). Pure coconut oil (commercial, not organic) is a helluva lot cheaper than butter here and I am on a tight budget so I am happy with this this combination/method. Also, the amount of herb that I would have smoked in 1 day made enough baked goods to last me 10 days!!! SO MY QUESTION, after all that (LOL) is, do you think I need to roast the herb before putting it in the oil? The above recipe doesn’t call for it but it does call for much more cooking time of the oil – and doesn’t mention oven heating, which I find easy. Alternatively, do you think I could cut the oil heating down to 1hr? I know absolutely nothing about science and I would like to make the process as efficient as possible. I guess it would be easiest to chop the herb, stalk seeds & all, but how would that affect the taste & potency? With my described method there was almost no smell when it was roasting alone or being heated with the oil, and no herb taste in the baked goods. And another thing: back in Canada a guy I used to buy herb cookies from told me to eat something small (like a 2nd, non-herb cookie) 15-20 minutes after ingesting as it would jump-start the high. I find this to be true but am wondering if it just works because I believe it will? Do you know anything about that? Lastly, I found that my baked goods didn’t fully kick in for 45mins – 1hr but the high lasted 4 – 6hrs. Thanks so much for any input you may have! 🙂
This author is clearly NOT a cook or baker. Too many questions left unanswered in these recipes, such as "place the dough in a greased pan". How big and what kind of pan? Placed doesn't tell us if one should roll out the dough, pat down into the pan or what the dough should appear like when its done? Too much is left to chance here, including NO measurements for some ingredients! If one is already good at baking, one can possibly wing it with these recipes, but who wants to do that with their weed?
While I am here I would also like to ask about making tinctures and butter. The prescriptions I have for medical marijuana all have exact potency ratios. They have been tested and calculated. Once I decarb the leaf, and add it to the 190 proof Everclear, shake and sit for 5-10 days, strain and bottle. How do I dose it using eye dropper method? Ex: If I use leaf that is 30% THC and decarb it to extract all the THC? Is this potion 30% THC tincture or roughly close if I do it correctly? According to what ratio? For example, there are 50 drops in the bottle. How much THC is in one drop? ( 30% divided by 50? ) Or is each drop 30% ? I am so confused!! I know you have to test it on yourself a drop at a time and just see how it makes you feel.
Well, there are several reasons for me to purchase this book. First of all, I was intrigued by .. let's say new opportunities. And I was also curious about a recommendation for choosing and buying a proper weed. And yes, Cannabis infused BBQ sauce is that thing I've dreamed about for a while. I have found answers for all my questions about marijuana ingesting in this particular book. Actually, I've found much more information here.
With 4/20 around the corner and more legalized recreational marijuana than ever before, both heavy stoners and first-time tokers are asking the same question when it comes to weed in the kitchen: What is the difference between cannabis oil and marijuana butter? While they do have a lot of similarities, confusing the two can have serious consequences—getting uncomfortably stoned, ruining a pan, or even wasting your weed. To truly understand their unique and similar qualities, we need to look at how they’re made, how they’re used, and where you can get them.
Pros: Edibles have demonstrated the longest-duration medicinal effect of any method of medication. Also, the total amounts of cannabinoids available through eating are multiplied and could have a much stronger effect than smoking. Coconut oil can be mixed with any foods to keep medication very discrete. Butter can also be used but use unsalted as it will separate. There are hundreds of recipes to meet dietary needs and taste pallets.
THE WHY This seems to be the step where many recipes differ; some call for butter heated in a crock pot while others call for honey heated on a hot plate…who is right? Nearly all of these recipes will ‘work’; however, our goal is NOT to make oil with the most aggregate THC possible, but rather oil with most amount of available THC for your body to absorb. Thus, we are going to select the best inputs for increased systemic bioavailability i.e. the same amount of THC is absorbed more efficiently and thus feels stronger.
Check out ethanol (everclear) extraction methods. Its pretty much a green dragon, then at a low temp (110 or so) evaporate all the alcohol left. I usually keep the tincture heated till oil is pretty much the only thing left. Use that oil in anything and dont bake over 350. It is already activated and decarbed if you decarbed before adding the cannabis to the everclear, so it doesnt need high temperatures again in order to feel the effects. Eating this oil raw works.
