Next, mix the oil and bud together in your pan or slow-cooker until the bud is totally submerged in oil. The ratio of oil to cannabis you’ll want to use will depend on the recipe you’re following. If you don’t have a recipe, 3 parts oil to 1 part cannabis will work fine. However, you can go as high as 16 to 1 (as in 16 ounces oil to 1-ounce cannabis). If you’re using the metric system, 1 ounce is approximately 30 milliliters.
Strain the butter and refrigerate. Choose a storage container for your butter. Cover the top with cheesecloth for straining. Use a rubber band around the top of the container to hold the cheesecloth in place. Pour the mixture through the cheesecloth into the container. Help! I am looking for a way to use BHO in cooking. I don’t know the ratios. I have made cannabutter many times and made BHO, but I’ve never cooked with it. One ounce of bud to pound of butter and the edibles are good and strong. I have one gram of BHO from the same bud and would love to cook with it. Pros: It is impossible for our bodies to feel high off of skin contact with cannabis infused oil so any psychoactivity associated with THC will not be felt by the user. Human skin absorbs up to 90% of what it comes in contact with (hence reapplication of sunscreen) so the medicine is immediately available and fast acting.
While some purists will tell you this is hearsay, adding water to your infusing process is a nifty trick. This way, you can infuse at a lower temperature. The amount of water you add is not important, but try to use at least as much water as oil or butter. The water boils off. You can also see the difference in your “washed” end product. It is not as green.

However, while many people will then squeeze the remaining oil out of the leaves, be careful. If you squeeze too hard, you will get extra plant material. Instead, be gentle and let gravity do the work for you.
