Substitute your marijuana infused butter for regular butter.[9] Unlike with oils, most recipes use small amounts of butter for flavor. You can substitute the entire recipe amount with marijuana butter. If you find that you are not getting the needed medicinal effect, consider increasing the amount of marijuana per stick of butter to a half an ounce. Alternately, you can use a different method of cooking with marijuana.
When straining cannabis oil after infusing it, go slow and be careful. Cheesecloth is the best strainer to use. It only allows the oil through. However, while many people will then squeeze the remaining oil out of the leaves, be careful. If you squeeze too hard, you will get extra plant material. Instead, be gentle and let gravity do the work for you.
Hello from the Yukon Territory. I’m a senior citizen and relatively new to this edibles game. I’ve started growing my own, outdoors, without too much fanfare. My plants (about 1/2 doz) make a few buds, that are far from high quality. All I do is dry my plants, grind them up in a food processor till close to the consistency of flour, and make small cookies. I use a half teaspoon for measuring the batter–cute little green ovals. My niece and I call them “beetles”. I’m happy with the buzz I get, and it helps with a few aches and pains I get from my senior age, but reading here and elsewhere, I see there is a lot more to the science behind it all. I’m also realizing that a lot of you may find it perhaps crude that I just cook with the pot the way I do, but I’m happy with the simplicity, and will probably continue with this method. However, do I deduce correctly, that my finished product will be better if I heat my dried and ground pot first in the oven, for 20 minutes at 250 degrees, before I make my beetles?

BUT…that said, you must be EXTREMELY cautious when it comes to THC and pets, especially dogs as dogs have more cannabinoid receptors in their brains than any other species! Likewise, it is very easy for them to get too much. In most cases they will sleep it off and be fine but it is scary for the owner to watch and uncomfortable for the pet if they get too much. Overdose is characterized by a condition known as Static Ataxia, which is characterized by a wide-legged stance, drooling, disorientation, and the animal being hypersensitive to touch (if you pet dog who has had too much, it will react almost like an electrical shock). They are likely to have quick shallow breathing too. It can take hours to wear off and it is scary to watch.
Once the butter has been sufficiently infused, remove from heat and gently pour the contents of the pan over the cheese cloth to strain. As the rate of butter flow slows, carefully lift the edges of the cheese cloth from the rim of the bowl to create a ball of processed, buttery weed. Hold the ball against the side of the mixing bowl and gently press out any remaining butter using the mixing spoon.
I am always asked what kind of oil is best to infuse.  That depends what you are going to use it for.  A neutral oil like canola, grapeseed, or vegetable oil is most versatile as you can use it most any recipe calling for oil.  For additional flavor elements, olive oil is a great choice.  You can even infuse solid at room temperature fats like coconut oil or vegetable shortening.  Use whatever works best for what you are planning to cook with it.
Cannabis oil extracted via heat and pressure can be used in topicals or ingested by itself orally, but the taste and consistency leave a lot to be desired. The most common way to consume cannabis oil, also known as “concentrate” or “dab,” is by vaporizing or smoking it, but it can also act as an ingredient for an easier method of making weed butter. By simply melting the dab with some butter or oil at a low temperature, mixing them into one substance, you’ve made marijuana butter! Keep in mind, however, that cannabis oil needs to adhere to the same temperature cap of 245 degrees Fahrenheit to minimize the destruction of the THC. One downside to cooking with butter derived from cannabis oil versus marijuana is the stickiness of the product—certain types of oil can leave behind a difficult residue on cookware. (For those reading this tip too late, try rescuing your pan with 99% isopropyl alcohol! It’s super effective.)
I’ve used distillate for cooking and had amazing results. Seeing as how the distillate is already decarbed, I used a double boiler. I used 2 cups of unrefined coconut oil. I dissolved the oil in the double boiler then added the distillate. Simply let it melt in to the oil for about 10 minutes on a low temp. Some of the strongest edibles I have ever made.

For those who need a simpler approach, simply mix your store-bought brownie mix with your canna butter and cook for 30 mins. This produces a harder brownie that more resistant to spoiling because it doesn’t have eggs, nuts, or milk in it.

I highly suggest that you try these crackers if you’re feeling up to baking one day. Not only that, but since you’ll have leftover dough, you can make smaller, shapeless crackers that are also medicated.

I can’t say that I’m a huge fan of mayo but working in the food business has shown me that it’s probably the single most popular condiment out there. People put mayo with everything. They’ll put it on subs, dip their fries in it, put it in the calzones and on their pizza. It’s insane how much people like mayo. So here’s this recipe for mayo that will taste awesome and it will also give you a little buzz. The recipe is really easy but just know that you will need cannabis oil so have some of the on hand before you start.
Start by preheating the oven to 350F. Then, combine the yeast and 3/4 cup of warm water. Let this sit for about five minutes to activate the yeast. While this sits, in a separate bowl, combine the salt, gluten free flour blend, and the baking powder. Whisk together until well combined. In the dry mixture, make a small well and add the yeast mixture, the olive oil, and an additional 1/2 cup of warm water before stirring well with a wooden spoon. Using more olive oil, coat a baking sheet and place the dough in the center. Working from the middle, press the dough outwards in to a circle. You want it to be around 1/4 of an inch thick. Place the dough in the over for about 25 minutes or until it begins to lightly brown.

Fill each of the popsicle molds about 1/3 of the way full with the raspberry mix. Freeze them for an hour.

This book has been a best seller for over 10 years, with easy to follow recipes that make marijuana cooking easily accessible to anyone, regardless of skill level and experience.
The recipes in this book are quite different than what I was expecting, but are delicious nonetheless. The instructions for making cannabutter/ghee and cannaflour are very useful, though in practice not always as easy as stated. All the recipes are very easily adapted to exclude the cannabis, and are very good on their own. Many recipes call for adding fresh pot to the dish (e.g. tossing ground buds into a salad, or stirring some into guacamole), and the taste can be quite strong. This cookbook isn't for someone just looking for brownie and cookie recipes. Many dishes included are somewhat labour intensive, but are certainly beneficial for medicinal marijuana patients looking to maintain a steady level of THC in their bodies, as the book contains recipes for any time of day. I would suggest trying a recipe out first without the pot, to work out any kinks. The recipes are meant to replace smoking marijuana (as that was the author's goal), so the proportions might seem a bit staggering at first. It's hard to watch 1/4 oz. get turned into hot chocolate, but that's why I suggest trying the recipes out pot-free first. It's easier than wasting good bud on a dish you don't like. All in all, it's a good cookbook, with well-thought-out recipes, and many interesting facts about cannabis and the people who've made history in the world of pot.

The first chapter of the book is the basic recipes, such as THC oil, cannabutter, tinctures, glycerites, marijuana flour, etc. This is the most important and most useful section of the book. Much like the five French mother sauces, once you've figured out how to make these base items, the rest of the book is pretty much the same as any other cookbook. If you are a regular edible consumer or dabber and have a high THC tolerance, you can increase the potency per serving by using less butter. If you mix one gram of BHO with 70 percent THC potency into 1/2-cup butter (48 half-teaspoons), each serving has 14.6mg THC.  If the same 70 percent potency BHO is blended into 1/4-cup butter (24 half-teaspoons), each serving would have 29.2mg THC — making an extra-strong dose.
I always fully decarboxylate before cooking in the slow cooker as the slow cooker does not get hot enough (https://www.cannabischeri.com/featured/marijuana-decarboxylation/ ). Lower and slower will preserve more cannabinoids and terpenes in theory, so I usually opt for that, but it depends, if I am in a hurry, I will infuse on a higher setting. Both have gotten great results in the finished edibles, but I do not have lab tests to compare, unfortunately.
I have an ardent lift (for decarboxalation) I feel as if it over does it? It runs for about 2 hours, and claims that it’s a perfect decarb everytime. 2 hours seems a bit long. Also when I have used trim, I notice the thc % is a little bit too low. Or has at times tested at 0% (using the tcheck device) I am aware that flower bears much stronger results. .should I stick to flower for streng?

There is probably no correlation between the known effects of marijuana and the fact that it has taken this classic counterculture magazine 38 years to get around to publishing a cookbook. Still, when an acknowledgement page credits folks with names like Evan Budman and Easy Bake Dave, one can almost smell the laid-back vibe emanating from this collection of "stoner-style cuisine." The 12-page introduction includes a brief paragraph on what to do should one's meal consumption result in a "total freak-out," but, more importantly, brings home the point that weed's active ingredients are fat-soluble and at their potent peak when in an oily blend. Thus, before launching into the creation of some ganja guacamole, Texas cannabis chili, or Pineapple Express upside-down cake one should whip up one of the spreads presented in the first chapter, such as cannabutter or cannabis-infused mayonnaise. Proper respect is paid to the classic pot brownie, with a page devoted to its history and a recipe involving a double boiler and much stirring. A section on cocktails gilds the lily with offerings like the Jamaican me crazy, which calls for cannabis-infused dark rum. While historians have found recipes involving weed dating back to 15th century Europe and even 10th century India, pot brownies were introduced to pop (or should we say “pot”?) culture in the 1968 movie “I Love You Alice B. Toklas.” Objectively, the most common way to make weed-laced snacks is marijuana butter, but baking with cannabis oil can be even more effective. While these two products have many similar uses and come from the same plant, they’re produced and used in very different ways.


It’s nearly impossible to ingest a lethal amount of marijuana. But people can do dangerous things while under the influence. In one notorious case, in 2014, a nineteen-year-old man jumped off a roof in Denver after eating a pot candy given to him by friends. This and other events prompted the state of Colorado to run a campaign called “Good to Know,” aimed at tourists and others whom Andrew Freedman, the state’s director of marijuana coördination at the time, called “the marijuana naïve.” The Dowd column “was our best possible public-education campaign” about the dangers of overconsuming, Freedman told me. The state has since changed its packaging rules, mandating that products like chocolate bars be split into clearly marked doses of ten milligrams.

As far as straining, I use a spatter screen (normally used over frying pans to stop spatter, they have a much finer weave than a strainer or screen colander). Just put it over the top of a pan and pour. Easiest way I’ve found and I lose way less oil than using any kind of fabric. After it stops dribbling, I press it, then pour boiling water through it and let drain then press again. Of course, anyone can rinse it as many times as they want, but one additional drain this way usually ends up with very little oil in the drained liquid, so I only do the one. I heat the water and oil again on a low heat, only up to a low boil, which mixes the oils, then shut it off and let it cool, gently transfer to fridge. When it is solid, lift it off the water and I have a translucent butter, very little color, almost no plant material because it settles, along with any other solids, on the bottom of the pan. If, by some chance, it comes out dark with material, it can be put in a half-gallon or so of water and heated again to a low boil, then shut off and left to settle and cool once more. Fridge it, when it’s solid, even cleaner butter.

Then, in a medium saucepan begin to melt the cannabutter and when it’s melted, stir in the garlic powder, salt, and Worcestershire sauce. While that simmers (as always, never boil the cannabutter or you’ll lose the THC), spread the cereal and pretzels mix on a cookie sheet and pour half of the butter mix over them using a spatula and spoon. Toss the remaining butter mixture well while you bake the trail mix on the cookie sheet for five minutes. When the five minutes is up, repeat the previous step, pouring the butter over the cookie sheet. Let the mix cool and then sprinkle some crushed cannabis over the top and toss it together. Once you do that, your trail mix is ready to be packaged up and enjoyed!

All the recipes are very easily adapted to exclude the cannabis, and are very good on their own. Many recipes call for adding fresh pot to the dish (e.g. tossing ground buds into a salad, or stirring some into guacamole), and the taste can be quite strong. This cookbook isn't for someone just looking for brownie and cookie recipes. Many dishes included are somewhat labour intensive, but are certainly beneficial for medicinal marijuana patients looking to maintain a steady level of THC in their bodies, as the book contains recipes for any time of day. I would suggest trying a recipe out first without the pot, to work out any kinks. The recipes are meant to replace smoking marijuana (as that was the author's goal), so the proportions might seem a bit staggering at first. It's hard to watch 1/4 oz. get turned into hot chocolate, but that's why I suggest trying the recipes out pot-free first. It's easier than wasting good bud on a dish you don't like. All in all, it's a good cookbook, with well-thought-out recipes, and many interesting facts about cannabis and the people who've made history in the world of pot.
If you prefer to use butter next time instead of oil, the preparation is virtually identical, but you’ll want to start out with a single stick of salted butter and you’ll want to simmer it between 8 to 24 hours if using the slow cook method. Use about a quarter to a half ounce of weed per stick of butter. Butters can be great because it can be more versatile than cooking with oil. You can even add butter to your toast!
