The day after the dinner party, Wolf picked me up in her car, a Kia Soul in a shade called kale green. “The perfect Portland color,” she said. Despite her affinity with the city, she still thinks of herself as a New Yorker, and seems to enjoy shocking West Coast sensibilities. “People here are so earnest,” she said. “I once told a group of people someone’s baby looked like a tampon. They were, like, ‘I’ve never heard anyone say that out loud.’ ”
Nevertheless, the column brought up a hazard of cannabis edibles: eating too much can lead to a terrible experience. Symptoms include hallucinations, panic attacks, and paranoia. What’s more, different individuals’ responses to a given amount of cannabis can vary wildly. They’re affected by tolerance levels, but also by sex, age, genetics, and even what the person has eaten that day. Wolf admitted that this complicates the very idea of responsible dosing. “Tiny people can eat a two-hundred-milligram squib”—a powerful gummy candy—“and they barely feel it. Then there are three-hundred-pound men who eat one of our brownies, which have a five- to ten-milligram THC dose, and it wipes them out.” Since the effects of edibles take a long time to kick in—anywhere from thirty minutes to two hours on average—it’s easy for novice users to overindulge, resulting in horror stories along the lines of those described in a tweet by the comedian Bill Dixon:

Slice the bananas in to small 1″ slices and roll them around in the budder that you’ve melted and lemon juice mixture. Do this to all of the bananas and then lightly coat them with the toasted coconut. The budder/lemon mix will make the coconut stick to the banana easily. However, making marijuana butter with concentrate is not the same as using traditional bud. Firstly, depending on how the oil is extracted, the THC can be already activated. This means you can skip the process of heating it up—it’s already ready to be used or ingested. Usually dispensaries can direct you to types of dab that have and haven’t undergone the THC activation process. Second, and perhaps more importantly, cannabis oil is an extremely concentrated (hence the nickname!) form of marijuana and can be much more effective than using regular Mary Jane. A good way to measure a comfortable dose is by simply doing the math. If a gram of cannabis oil is 70 percent THC (dispensaries usually disclose this information on the package), that means it contains 700mg of THC. With 48 teaspoons in one cup of butter, each teaspoon serving would boast 14.5mg of THC if you melted the cannabis oil gram with the butter. Most dispensaries have edibles in individual 10mg THC pieces, which is a great starting point for seeing what is comfortable. Another major difference is flavor: Some types of cannabis oil have intense flavors which carry over to whatever you’re cooking. Pick your concentrate carefully, as it can really affect the taste of the dish.


As long as the infused oil or fat is not used directly on high heat, such as in a hot pan or skillet for frying, the potency should hold or only slightly diminish. Always heat your fat or oil to the temperature a hot beverage such as coffee or tea is served at — 160 degrees F (71.1 degrees C) to 185 degrees F (85 degrees C). Alcohol does not need to be preheated.
This recipe is best used if you can plan ahead, as the cannabis should sit in milk overnight. The fat in the milk draws out the THC so you get the best high possible. Grind the cannabis up in to a fine powder before adding it to the milk. In the morning, take the milk, ice cream, vanilla, and coffee in a blender. Blend the mixture until it’s creamy and smooth. It also happens that the instant coffee in this recipe can be replaced with hot chocolate mix. Use the same amount of chocolate as you would with coffee. You now have a chocolate medicated shake, with no coffee, if that’s what you prefer!

This is a slightly healthier snack that stoners can enjoy… And get stoned while eating it as well! Toasted bananas aren’t nearly as bad for you as pizza so if you’re looking to stay a bit healthier, this medible is highly recommended for you. Not only that but it’s a good snack for a cold winter’s night and will distract you from the awful snowstorms some of us are about to deal with! And if you’re not going to freeze this winter, you can enjoy these snacks while laying by the pool.
Begin by placing the cannabutter (or regular butter) and the ham in a larger frying pan. Take the eggs that you have ready and crack them in to a mixing bowl, making sure to whisk them together well, so that all of the yolks are broken. Grind up your marijuana very fine (it’s a good idea to use a coffee grinder and to be sure that your weed is incredibly dry) and add it in to your eggs. This is also where you add in your food coloring, making the eggs green in two different ways.
Pour the mixture through the fine strainer, in to a large bowl and discard any solids that are left behind in the strainer. Place this bowl in the fridge and leave it uncovered for an hour, stirring it occasionally. Then, place plastic wrap over the top of the mixture and let it chill for another 12 to 24 hours. After that amount of time has passed, pour the cold mixture in to a 1 1/2 quart ice cream freezer container. Stick it in the freezer for three hours and then stir in the vanilla wafers and the lime juice. Put the container back in the freezer for another six hours or until the mixture has become firm. Let the ice cream stand for five minutes before serving it. Enjoy!
For example, if you are planning to prepare 30 cookies with your full gram of wax that has 65% (650 mg) THC, then you’ll simply divide 650mg by 30, yielding 21.7mg (approx.. 22mg) per each cookie—which is a little higher than what some states allow for sale. This is a high amount for inexperienced users. If you’re not entirely sure, it is a good idea to start on the low end and mix in less, or even half of your concentrate until you arrive at a comfortable euphoria.

 In a large bowl mix together peanut butter, canna-butter, sugar, vanilla, and egg. Once everything’s mixed together, begin rolling the dough into little balls about half the size of a golfball and place them on your already prepared baking sheet. For the finishing touches put a bit of sugar in a bowl to dip a fork in, then press the ever so famous criss cross pattern onto your cookie dough balls. So in case you don’t have time to smoke and eat, it’s highly recommended that you eat. But just in case you want to get high while you eat, you can make these super easy wake and bake sandwiches that will fill your stomach and get you perfectly medicated.

“When a person eats marijuana product they may not feel anything for a while,” says Dr. Igor Grant, director of the Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research at the University of California, San Diego. “And if they were doing it medicinally, they may say, ‘Well, maybe I didn’t have enough,’ and take some more, and then two hours later they’re very, very stoned.”

Guacamole is nothing short of fantastic, but with canna-oil it’s nothing short of magical. With so many flavors and textures, it knows how to pop around on your taste buds giving you all the right flavors. The rich green avacado color is a reminder of sweet Mary Jane, and when the buzz kicks in from eating it you’ll be glad you ate so much.


Edibles are yummy treats infused with marijuana that deliver the medicinal and psychoactive ingredients to your system without having to smoke. They are a fun, convenient and covert way to consume cannabis, whether for recreation or medical purposes. The cannabis cookbooks in this list have tons of recipes to help you make the most delicious sweet or savory Mary Jane treats.
Start off by grinding up the rosin chips in the coffee grinder until they are a fine powder in the coffee grinder. Set them aside and take a measuring cup and scoop the coconut oil in to it. Put the measuring cup with the coconut oil in the microwave and heat it slowly until the oil is a liquid. Measure out your required amount (I believe you will need 1 1/3 cups total for the two boxes) and pour it in to a pot. Add in the rosin chips and let the mixture simmer for about half an hour to forty five minutes, stirring occasionally. Make sure to keep the heat low. If the mixture is bubbling a lot, it’s too hot. After the time is up on the canna-coconut oil, you need to strain the mixture through cheesecloth to extract the plant matter. Over a bowl, strain the oil in the cheesecloth (be sure that you squeeze the cloth to make sure that you get all of the oil) and mix up the brownie batter following the instructions on the box. Finish cooking them according to the brownie instructions. Once they are done cooking in the oven, you will have some extremely potent and incredibly delicious coconut-canna-brownies made with recycled rosin chips! Enjoy!
Just to be clear you can decarb your dry ice hash/kief and then mix it into dishes that don’t need cooking? I just made awesome tempered almond chocolates with 3 grams of kief, seems potent so far. With my honeys and maple syrup seems like it would be better not to heat them for so long if the hash is already decarbed. I have had problems using plant materials and getting mold so I turned all the trim we had into CO2 hash! We have over 200 grams so I can cook with it. It’s also super potent in my vaporizer.
A slow cooker is my favorite way, but you could also infuse on the stovetop in a double boiler (it just takes more babysitting). If you are going to buy a slow cooker temp variables are good to have for sure. I like the Hamilton Beach Stay and Go slow cooker because it clamps closed so you don’t get any kitchen odor while cooking. An Instant Pot on the slow cooker setting is also great and is versatile for other things (does the work of 8 or 9 different appliances) and also no odor while cooking.
Marijuana oil — AKA canna-oil,  or weed oil to use a more slacker term, is a staple of  many cannabis recipes.  Since THC, the psychoactive component in marijuana, is fat soluble, edible oils make ideal ways to bond it to food.  Likewise marijuana oils are the backbone of many medicated foods.  With these staples stored in your refrigerator or freezer you’re always ready to cook with cannabis.

That's not the way it works. A lot of people say, "Oh yeah, I put a gram of Blue Dream into my brownies and they were amazing." No, they really weren't. First of all, I don't believe you, because if you're going to put the actual ground-up bud into your brownies, sure, there's going to be some form of decarboxylation that occurs, and you'll get some of the potency of the herb into your brownies. But they'll taste horrible and your body most likely will reject the brownies (read: you'll vomit) because our digestive systems are not designed to digest plant matter like that.

“If you’re stoned, it’s highly entertaining,” says cannabis chocolatier and co-host Vanessa Lavorato. The summer before Bong Appétit started filming, Lavorato says she slowly built up her tolerance to edibles, so she could better handle herself while stoned on air. In the end, all her hard work didn’t matter much. “You can’t hide it. You’re just really high on camera, which hopefully is funny for people.”

Oatmeal cookies provide such a hearty bite that it’s hard not to fall in love with them, especially when you’ve got oats and raisins falling out of your mouth. Raisins and oats are both good for your health and so is cannabis. So it’s only right that they join forces to produce this super cookie. So if you love eating, and you love Mary Jane it’s time to start cooking!
Most oils come in bottles with small pipettes or syringes with measurements on them. Remember that it takes as long as 1-2 hours for effects to kick in, and by taking another dose before the height of the first effects, you’re risking some side effects. If the oils are in capsule format, measurement is much easier as you just take the recommended amount of capsules throughout your day.
Decarbing…. it sounds like your oven is not going to cut it for that. The slow cooker, unfortunately, does not get hot enough to properly do the job. I even tried under pressure in my Instant Pot and it only worked so-so. I don’t imagine you have a sous vide machine, most people don’t, but if you did this would work. It is basically a boil in bag but very temperature controlled. I say hopefully because lecithin will makes fats bind to the water, which is not what you want in this instance. I never use lecithin when making ordinary infused butter, I don’t see a reason. (more on lecithin here — https://www.cannabischeri.com/food/cooking-basics/lecithin-in-cannabis-cooking/ ) So this is my best guess of how to save it. Without the lecithin in the mix it would be no problem, but not sure how this will affect it. Please let us know!

You deserve better than a limp joint and leftover pad Thai eaten by the light of the fridge. Live a little. Take that ganja and infuse it into butter, oil, milk, and sugar, and fuck around a bit. We're not talking boxed brownie mix; we're talking about a full-fledged gastronomical ball-out—apps, entrees, desserts, even some cocktails—that'll get you high and appease your munchies. Two birds, one stoner.


Unless you are working with a cannabis concentrate (like CO2 oil) that is labeled ‘activated’, you will need decarboxylate your starting material to maximize the effect of your edibles. To do so, we recommend preheating your over to approximately 220-225°F. It helps to use an oven thermometer to check the accuracy of your oven; ours ran nearly 20 degrees hotter than it was set! The specific temperature will dictate how long it takes for your starting material to decarboxylate. As you can see on the chart below, it will likely take between 45 and 60 minutes to fully decarb your material at this temperature. If using a different temperature, be sure to adjust your oven time accordingly!
Voila! Congratulations, you’re done with the hard part. Now either store the oil in the airtight jar somewhere cool and dark, or use immediately. Oxygen and light are the enemies of cannabis oil, as they can lessen the potency and freshness of the oil. If you store it properly, your oil can last up to 60 (maybe 90) days. Or you can freeze or refrigerate it to make it last longer.
